PROGRESS REPORT

On November 5, 2008 the City of Cloverdale came one step closer to realizing the goal of having a great multi-cultural center for artistic excellence with the signing of the Owner Participation and Loan Agreement between the City of Cloverdale and the Cloverdale Performing Arts Center.

The Cloverdale Performing Arts Center, Inc. (a domestic nonprofit Corporation also known as CPAC) was formed in February, 2007 in order to provide a vehicle for; education in, production and development of the performing arts, included but not limited to drama, musical and related cultural productions and to encourage community participation in all aspects thereof.  The City of Cloverdale set aside $1,800,000.00 of Redevelopment funds to acquire the property at 209 Cloverdale Boulevard formally known as the Cloverdale Fitness Center and transform the building, as part of the Four Corners Project, into a performing arts center consisting of a lobby, a 99 seat theatre, dressing rooms, back stage work space, storage, offices and a venue for City Council and Planning Commission Meetings.  The new facility will be a showcase for regional arts groups, a center of arts education for children and adults alike, a premier destination for Cloverdalians and tourists, a welcoming place that strengthens community pride, and an environment encouraging participation and new experiences.

With additional funding from the city, tuition, sponsorships, endowments, ticket sales and some fundraising, the first production in the new theatre will hopefully be by summer of 2009 with six major productions to follow during the 2009-2010 season, including a quality production for children.  In the mean time CPAC will provide oversight for the construction of a state of the art Performing Arts Center, continue to provide a year round Young Performers Program and continue to maintain The Grange Hall as office, classroom and workshop space.

The Cloverdale Performing Arts Center is pleased to announce the CPAC Young Performers’ presentation of “Paint The Town December” on December 11th 12th, and 13th at the Grange Hall Theater, 201 Commercial Street.  The 45 minute production, under the direction of Paula Gilbert, features local children going from store to store in the town of “Greysville”, painting the windows, dressing up the downtown businesses for the December holidays and learning about diversity along the way.  This multicultural musical celebrates Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Santa Clause, Ramadan, Christmas and Las Posadas!  Seasoned actors join our young performers, and even Scrooge with vocal and dance numbers making this musical a must see for the whole family!!  Each evening performance on the 11th and 12th, will begin at 7:00, and  on 13th there will be a matinee performance at 2:00.  Adult and children’s beverages and cookies may be purchased during intermission as well as a CD and other souvenirs of the performance.

Tickets will be available at Mail Center, 207 A North Cloverdale Blvd, or can be reserved by calling 894-2214.  Adults: $10, Seniors: $7, and children 12 and under: $5.  “Pay What You Can” on Thursday, 11th .
